Homework strengthens home/school links and keeps parents informed of their child’s progress. Every effort is made to ensure homework is relevant to schoolwork, consistent, meaningful and purposeful to each individual pupil. It is usually given as an extension of class work or to provide further practice in some aspects of the curriculum. It is looked upon as an important self–discipline encouraging pupils to study, practise organisational skills and promote independent learning

Primaries 1 – 3
Homework comprises of reading preparation, reinforcement of phonics and basic number bonds. Parents are encouraged to reinforce work undertaken in the classroom. On average, homework should not exceed fifteen minutes per night.

Primaries 4 – 7
Homework takes a variety of forms, e.g. spelling; completion of a task set in school, story writing or a research assignment and should not exceed thirty minutes per night.

Pupils are encouraged to read for pleasure at home.
