Literacy Week

During Literacy Week, the Nursery were learning the story of ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ by Roald Dahl. To tie in with their book, they made a big display in the gym hall. They did lots of activities such as pictures and puzzles.

Primary 1 were learning about the book ‘The Room on the Broom’ by Julia Donaldson. While they were learning about the book itself, they also did some fun activities. Tyler from P1 said that they also drew pictures of the characters in the book.

Primary 2 were talking about their favourite books. Olachan Bowie’s favourite book is 'George’s Marvellous Medicine' by Roald Dahl and Mia Heal’s favourite book is 'Little Red Riding Hood'.

Primary 3 were reading ‘The Twits’ and ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ by Roald Dahl.
They were making Mr Twit’s beard and came up with adjectives to describe it in English and Scots. Primary 3 made Roald Dahl fact posters using research they carried out on the Internet with a partner. They also made portraits of Mr and Mrs Twit.
Primary 3 had author visits from Brian Davidson and Matthew Fitt.

Primary 4 were learning about Roald Dahl.
The class’s favourite book was ‘The Twits’.

Primary 5 were learning about ‘War Horse’ by Michael Morpurgo.
They also read lots of other books, designed covers of books and talked about books.
Cameron Smith, Mia Kelly, Sophie Leitch and Erica Horn were interviewed.

Primary 6 were learning about ’War Horse’ as well.
They read the book and most people liked it.
They swapped books and made their own book covers and had fun doing it.
They had to do a 1 minute talk on their favourite book.
They also talked to Cathie McPhail, a local author.
They loved learning about writing books.

P7 did not really focus on a certain book. Here are some of their favourite books: ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid, ‘Skulduggery Pleasant’ and ‘War Horse’.
